On 12 March 2018, Michael John Hewitt, 71, of Omaha Way, Fremington, Devon and formerly of Demesne Road, Wallington was found guilty at Croydon Crown Court of eight counts of indecency with children and sentenced to 15-years in prison, placed on the Sex Offenders Register for life, given a sexual harm prevention order and issued with a restraining order.

Judge Flahive described Hewitt as a ‘significant risk’ to young children and a ‘dangerous offender’. Hewitt abused his victims, young members of the Jehovah’s Witness community, over several decades and two of his victims were just five years old when the abuse started.

On January 11, 2016 two of the victims reported what had happened to a family member who then contacted police. Hewitt was arrested later that month and bailed pending further enquiries. In May 2017, Hewitt was charged with 11 counts of indecency with three girls under 16 years old.

Detective Constable Janet Williams was the investigating officer from the Met’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command.

Also in 2017 Dale Hewitt and Richard Hewitt.

Also in 2021 John Hewitt.
